My second week as a Summer Fellow with The Columbus Foundation has been equally as rewarding as the first!
Settling in with The Westerville Fund has been exciting, and I am still filled with anticipation for what is to come. I completed my first major project this week—drafting a 2025 Annual Report—which was very rewarding. As mentioned in my Week 1 blog, familiarizing myself with graphic design tools has been a goal of mine, but I never seemed to be in a situation where I needed to use them. This project truly helped me gain a better understanding of what graphic design entails, and how to make reports digestible and easy to read.
Midway through the week, I joined my cohort at The Columbus Foundation for our first learning session. It was helpful to get more familiar with The Columbus Foundation’s inner workings, in terms of how many assets they manage and how certain funds can be used. Working with The Westerville Fund—a fund of The Columbus Foundation—gave me a head start on the material we discussed, and the session helped deepen my understanding of The Westerville Fund in return.
Alongside the annual report, I’ve also continued workshopping new logo ideas and putting the finishing touches on informational cards we plan to hand out at farmers markets and other events. Additionally, a large focus of mine has been editing video footage I shot of a nonprofit site that received over $25,000 in grants from The Westerville Fund. It has been a bit of a learning curve picking up a new editing software—DaVinci Resolve—but I have always found editing videos enjoyable, so I’ve been up for the challenge!
Overall, I’m very satisfied with my Week 2 at The Westerville Fund, and I’m eager to keep updating my journey as it happens!
Looking forward to what’s next,
Owen
